Thinking about becoming an Exodus volunteer? Volunteers can participate as individuals or in a group and contribute their time in many ways including: mentoring, organizing the storage area, planning events, taking photos, teaching a skills class, working with our children’s program and much more. Prospective volunteers should fill out an application, found at the bottom of this page.
Volunteers are needed to make character reference calls for people interested in volunteering at Exodus Ministries as well as other administrative duties.
Do you enjoy teaching and have a heart for helping people? Teachers are needed to lead classes such as: Bible study, budgeting, cooking, spiritual growth, self-esteem improvement, basic computer skills, relationship skills, life skills, etc. Classes are held Monday nights from 7 PM to 8 PM. Exodus does book classes months in advance as this is a popular and very worthy volunteer opportunity.
Enjoy decorating? Small groups are needed to set up, paint, and decorate apartments for resident move-in. Donated furniture and household items are available at the Exodus facility. If desired, a group can adopt an apartment and be responsible for make-ready each time a resident moves out.
Are you crafty? Has God gifted you with creativity that you want to use to glorify Him? Volunteers with special skills can teach family art projects or have a scrapbooking night for the residents so they can cherish family memories.
Do you like “fiestas?” Well come get your “party” on! Volunteers can help plan and orchestrate birthday parties for the residents and their children. Creativity is encouraged. You can plan a themed event, provide a cake, bring goody bags, create a fun colorful beverage to share, make a piñata, or play games if you wish.
Love kids? Individuals or groups are needed for childcare. This is an ongoing need and there are many opportunities throughout the week to help out. The most important aspect of this volunteer opportunity is to provide loving and caring Christ- like encouragement to children ages birth – 12 who are recovering from the disruptions that have been a part of their lives.
Love kids? Individuals are needed to facilitate Bible studies for children on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings from 6:15 PM to 8:15 PM. The most important aspect of this volunteer opportunity is to provide loving and caring Christ- like encouragement to children ages birth – 12 who are recovering from the disruptions that have been a part of their lives.
Tutors and mentors are needed for school-age children. There are two types of mentoring relationships: Exodus-Based Matches and Community-Based Matches. Those that decide to have an Exodus-based match will meet their mentee only at the Exodus facility; whereas those that are community-based are allowed to explore outside the Exodus property. Community-based matches can meet at parks, restaurants, the library, the zoo, sporting events, church events, etc. The matches will last up to one calendar year, and the mentors are asked to meet with their mentees for at least an hour a week.
Want a distraction? Get out of the house and take some families along with you who will appreciate the opportunity to get out and have some fun! Sponsors are needed to provide fun family outings for the mothers and children. This can include, but is not limited to: tickets to local events and/or field trips to the state fair, spas, sporting events, concerts, faith-based events, parks, gyms, the zoo, the aquarium, holiday events, expos, etc.
Do you have the gift of handy work? Our property is always in need of minor repairs and updates. If you or your church/business team is looking for ways to serve in this capacity, please let us know and we’ll give you some options of current maintenance needs.
Ladies who enjoy giving makeovers are needed to help boost the residents’ self-esteem. This can include, but is not limited to: haircuts, manicures, pedicures, spa days, face care classes, facials, make-up application classes, and styling tips for professional and everyday dress, etc.
Female mentors are needed to mentor, encourage, and share their love and life experiences with a resident. A few visits or outings a month makes a world of difference to the Exodus women and children who are in such need of Christ-centered modeling. This is also a wonderful volunteer opportunity to impart good parenting practices on these women as many of them are reuniting with their children for the first time in over a year. Most, if not all, come from homes that lack positive parenting skills.
If you love taking pictures, Exodus needs photographers to take family pictures of residents. Please provide frames for family portraits, as many women do not own any. Extra prints would also be greatly appreciated by the residents.
